Opinion

For this being your fifth episode, this is pretty good. Your sound has a fair amount of echo (very quick) and I had a hard time (at times) telling when you were transitioning. I would make your tease at the beginning quicker (maybe three or four questions tops). Your music seems to be peaking in your audio level. Then you did the dreaded double intro of your guest. You did a good job of introducing him and explaining why he was on the show, but then when you went to the interview you did another intro (you also said welcome to the Fight Focus podcast, that's not needed - nobody is joining in the middle of a podcast). I had to sit through quite a bit of commercials to get to the interview. For me, I'll sit through one commercial at the beginning, but two (for me) seems excessive. You could also have better titles for your show, and if you go to settings > edit show setting in Libsyn you can add subscribe links that will appear on your podcast page. If you have an official page you can enter the website address under show settings as well so people who click on Website in Apple will go to that site.

One of the worst intros I've heard in a while. The audio has a high pitch whine that fades in and out, and you guys have no idea what is going on. You don't introduce your show or your topic. Figure out what is going on and then press record. Your intro music goes on forever, and when the voiceover comes in you can't hear it. The good news is these are all easy fixes.

Opinion

I liked Amy's early standup. It was edgy and unique. I liked her first movie, but I'm growing cold on her. The I feel pretty movie was pretty bad. She said she started this podcast because she heard you could make money at it, and she did. Spotify has paid her a lot of money (which is odd as you can still get the show in Apple Podcasts

For me, there was nothing special about this. Do you care what Amy feels about love? It took her almost four minutes to get to it, and her description of her podcast is "this is the podcast where we podcast" which in code means, "I'm famous, and we put no planning into this at all." The audio sounded exactly like anybody else's that was recorded in their apartment. Most of the episodes are around 30-40 minutes. This first impression was not a great one, but this is her first crack at podcasting. I do find it odd, that her website doesn't even list this anywhere on her site.

Clear+Vivid with Alan Alda

Description

Learn to connect better with others in every area of your life. Immerse yourself in spirited conversations with people who know how hard it is, and yet how good it feels, to really connect with other people – whether it’s one person, an audience or a whole country. You'll know many of the people in these conversations – they are luminaries in our culture. Some you may not know. But what links them all is their powerful ability to relate and communicate. It's something we need now more than ever.

Opinion

I adore Alan Alda. That's what I wanted to hear his podcast. I've seen him on late night talk shows and I know he has a passion for science. I expected this podcast to be more science-based. While the intro was professionally produced with superior audio quality. Maybe I expected him to come out and hit me with some science fact over the head, but when he interviews Itzhak Perlman (who I am also a fan of, he can seriously shred on the violin) the show sounded like another celebrity show where they interview celebrities. Granted, I listened to the first three minutes, but that's the point of this show. Alan is 82, and when he does what I will call the "calm, soothing, NPR voice" he sounds, um, 82. I didn't expect the energy of a morning zoo, and I didn't tune into the Hawkeye Pierce show, but I did need to come to grips that one of my favorite actors is 82.  This also makes me happy as he may bring in an older demographic to the podcasting space.

I think he named his podcast wrong and nobody is going to type clear+vivid.  They will type in clear and vivid. Luckily, he is Alan Alda and can get away with this because people can type in Alan Alda.

In the end, I'm not sure how I feel about this show. It's not what I expected, and because it is Alan Alda I will listen to the rest of the interview.

Opinion

While I'm sad to hear about their loss, they didn't set this up very well, and their audio level was really low. The host had a few popping p's (surprising for a radio station).

Opinion

I feel bad as this is your first ever episode, but it's best that you get this corrected quickly. Your audio is filled with background hiss, possibly an air conditioner, and you are using one microphone for two people. That just doesn't work and creates audio quality that is so bad, that people will tune out as we are so distracted by the audio that we can't pay attention to what you are saying. The small bit I did hear you sounded bored. "Blah, blah, blah..." Also be careful with inside jokes between you and your partner. Here is how you fix it

Reel Film Nerds

Comments? 888-563-3228

Description Just two regular gents chatting and reviewing movies of all kinds!

Website http://reelfilmnerds.com/

Opinion I can't decide what to do with this show. On one hand, they are exactly what they advertise. Two guys talking about films. I really like that you got right to the film and didn't make me wait through a bunch of nonsensical chit-chats. The audio sounded OK and any comments I have are nitpicking. I'm in a quiet room and I really noticed the hosts breathing. It sounded like someone had compressed the file, but I'm pretty sure had I been outside or really, ANY PLACE That wasn't my quiet office, I wouldn't have even noticed it.

The fact that you couldn't pronounce people's names is not a deal breaker, but come on, you know you're going to say this name in about two minutes. Shouldn't you practice it first? Then at one point, the host seemed kind of snotty like "Hey you forgot the writer earlier." Now, this might be part of your chemistry where you crack on each other, but for me, I was thinking, "What is wrong with this guy?" Earlier he was like "Dude you forgot somebody" Why not press stop and let him get it right? Were you maybe two minutes into the show? Very weird.

The big take away (and this is bonus content) YOU HAVE NO WAY TO SUBSCRIBe TO YOUR SHOW ON ANY PLATFORM?!!?! So if you're in iTunes put a link to that on your website. Make sure your show is listed in the new Google Podcasts (see http://schoolofpodcasting.com/linking-to-your-show-on-google-podcasts-app/ ). This means people have to come to your website (or use the podbean app, which would be less than 2% of people if even that high).  Get some subscribe buttons on your site. If you're not sure how to do this,  join the School of Podcasting as I have courses on publishing and promoting your show.

Opinion

You started out great. Your audio is good. Your introductions started to go long, but you got back on track. You had a great, detailed table of contents at the very beginning of the show, then your intro music (kind of long) and I had to strain a bit to understand what they were saying (you might want to boost the vocals). Then you get into where you can the show (even though I don't know why as a new listener hasn't actually got to the show yet (I listened to five minutes and we never got to the topic). Your stitcher ad went on forever, you gave me another table of contents. I'm assuming to keep me around. A better way to keep me around would be to get to the content. Then instead of getting to the content, you started to tell me where you had appeared. As a first impression you had me, but I was waiting to hear about the movies that didn't get made, and I ran out of patience. Your show has segments, you can break up all of these announcements, and calls to action and do one here, on there, and get to the content quicker.

Opinion

This show started off OK. I liked that you were talking to me instead of reading. The update about a studio that's not open was a little long for a studio that I can't access. The introduction of your guest was a bit long, and while you were reading, was tolerable. Once the interview started, the audio quality was horrible. You sounded like you were recording in a bathroom. My guess is you're using one microphone in the middle of the table. This is not acceptable in today's podcast landscape if you're trying to come across as borderline yoga professionals. I would recommend purchasing a microphone for each person like the ATR2100, and a mixer or a portable recorder like a Zoom H6.

Podcast equipment is a one time purchase. You can always sell it on ebay if you decide to fold up show later. There is something going on with your audio when you are solo. You possibly over-produced it. I'm not sure what, but when you are not talking there is still something in the background.

Opinion

The intro of the show is weird with the abrupt starting music. You do a good job of giving a brief description of the show and the episode. Then you start to read to me. At times a little fast, and it was obvious you were reading. You make an assumption that I've heard your past episodes (I haven't ), and I did like the part where you start to explain why you disagree with the one doctor as your passion came out and you were more talking to me than reading to me.

I would be careful as you are giving medical advice. You want to throw in a disclaimer about always consult your doctor (or something) to cover your butt. Also, who are you? Why should I listen to you? Throw in something to give yourself some street cred. You seem to be well researched, and you know your stuff, but you might want to throw that in.

If you want to promote yourself as an expert, you're not going to do it using a free media host and free website. In full discloser, I work for an Anchor.fm competitor, but I would say this even if I didn't.

They use a file format that can cause playback issues with Apple (even though Apple invented the m4a format)

Most free media hosts last an average of 31 months. Free bandwidth is a very stupid business plan as bandwidth is not free. Likewise paying people 1000.oo to listen when you have no business plan is not very smart.

They OWN YOUR SHOW and can do whatever they want.

They own your iTunes listing.

They take credit for things they don't do.

The audio quality is not great.

I would strongly urge you to get off this platform. Pick anything but SoundCloud (I recommend Libsyn.com, Blubrry.com, use the coupon code sopfree to get a free month at either)
